Summary:This plan updates and replaces the Fire Management Plan first developed in 1989. Text from p. 2: "Director's Order #18 states that 'Wildland fire may contribute to or hinder the achievement of park objectives. Therefore, park fire management programs will be designed to meet resource management objectives prescribed for the various areas of the park and to ensure that firefighter and public safety are not compromised. Each park with vegetation capable of burning will prepare a fire management plan to guide a fire managment program that is responsive to the park's natural and cultural resource objective and to safety considerations for park visitors, employees, and developed facilities.' In short, it is the policy fo the National Park Service to allow natural processes to occur to the extent practical while meeting park unit management objectives. It is the task of this fire management plan to state how this balance will be achieved."
