Help => DjVu format and plugin

What is DjVu?

  • DjVu is an electronic image format used to create and deliver text documents.  DjVu files are highly compressed and served using both client and server caching. Pages are streamed one at a time as they are requested, so documents are fast loading and the first page is available within seconds.

  • DjVu is similar to Adobe Acrobat's more widely recognized PDF format.  However,  DjVu delivers document images with higher quality and a much smaller file size.  This makes documents easier to store, distribute and view.  Click here for technical details of the DjVu format.

Installing the DjVu Plug-In

  • The DjVu browser plug-in is required for viewing and navigating DjVu documents. The plug-in is only 900K and can be quickly installed with about three mouse clicks.  Please review the guidelines below, then click here to download the plug-in from the DjVu website.

  1. Confirm that your system meets the minimum system requirements for the DjVu Web Browser Plug-in:
    • Windows 98, NT, 2000, ME, XP
    • 6 MB available hard disk space.
    • 64 MB of RAM
    • IE 4 or later, Mozilla 1.0 or later-based browser
    • Mouse or other pointing device

  2. The link above will open the DjVu web site in a new browser window.  The web site will walk you through the following installation process:
  1. Select a platform (Windows, Mac or UNIX).
  2. Select a type of installation (Auto or Manual).  NPS Focus recommends the auto-instillation.
  3. Select a language (English, French, German, Japanese, Korean or Spanish).
  4. Click "Install Now."
  5. You may receive a security warning from LizardTech, Inc.  Click "Yes" to continue installation.
  6. You will see the following message when the plug-in installation is complete: "Congratulations!  The DjVu plug-in has been successfully installed and you are now viewing a DjVu document."
  7. Please contact NPS Focus for help if you experience problems with any part of this process.
